HUT 8 Techtorial – Cisco Reverse Telnet or The Poor Man’s Remote Console Server Solution

In this HUT 8 techtorial we take a look at a very ingenious method of using a Cisco router’s AUX port (and a rollover cable) to connect to the console port of another device. This would be an amazing solution for a remote site location where a device is not accessible via SSH, but where you have a Cisco router and a free AUX port (and that pesky rollover cable). This would also be a great solution if you are shipping pre-configured devices to a remote site where you might not have ‘smart hands’ and you still need to get onto the device in question. We are actually looking at sending a rollover cable to each of our remote sites to allow us to use this approach in the future. Many thanks to my co-worker (and longtime friend) Mar for finding this solution! Hopefully this helps someone out there on the wire and enjoy!
